Albion Academy Historical Society

The following article was submitted on May 27 to the Edgerton Reporter hopefully to be published on Thursday, May 28.
The Albion Academy Museum and Sheepskin School will begin their summer hours THIS Sunday, June 1, from 1-4 pm. Come see the one-room schoolhouse and the Academy (high school BEFORE this was authorized by the State of WI) where students learned their 3 “R's”. Those who graduated went on to become doctors, lawyers, judges, senators and of course, housewives, farmers and schoolteachers. In the 1800s you could do anything with an 8th grade or higher education!!
We also display information about the developing community of Albion – post office, creamery, churches, Severson Trucking and the Albion Academy. There is an exhibit about the Albion Tigers baseball team with uniforms, trophies, catcher masks and more. Did you know that over 2,000 people attended the first game in the summer of 1934 on the new ball diamond?
This summer we are remodeling a basement room with the idea of making a tobacco exhibit. If you have anything used for tobacco from growing the plants, planting, suckering, topping harvesting, stripping, etc. please give us a call or stop by on a Sunday afternoon. We need actual items, photographs (we can scan them and give them back!), news articles, etc.
The Albion Parks committee has created a beautiful playground area, and the Albion Town Board has built a wonderful picnic pavilion with bathrooms. Come out to Albion and visit us! The museum will be open on Sundays in June, July and August except for July 20 from 1-4 pm. Any questions, call Nancy at 608-774-4339 OR go to our website: www.aahsmuseum.com

The Stoughton St. Ann 4th and 5th graders
The Stoughton St. Ann 4th and 5th graders toured the Albion Academy Museum and Sheepskin School after picnicking in the Albion Park and burning off some energy at the playground. They had toured the Sterling North House Museum in the morning. They had lots of questions with 11 of them turning in their Scavenger Hunt sheets. We hope they bring another group next Fall. Thank you to the 17 students, 2 teachers and their priest for coming to our Museum and being such good visitors!
